Litton, 54, of Powellton, where he had resided the past six months, brought the total deaths in the explosion of a locomotive boiler at MacDunn, on Armstrong Creek, Thursday morning, December 27, up to eighteen. It was stated this afternoon following Litton's death, by hospital physicians, that all of the others who were injured in the accident, and now in the hospital would recover barring unforeseen and unexpected complications. Phylis Marlene died June 24, 2017. Eavon Lee married Tony Mobley and had 1 daughter Deanne Amy (Kuiper) and 1 son David Aaron. Leilani Sue married Michael Wayne Viers and had 2 sons Adam Michael and Andrew Steven. Lorrie Ann married Kevin Stegner and had 1 daughter Megan Ann and 1 son Matthew. She was born in Ernest, a daughter of the late Jacob and Emeline Shafer Niday. She was a lifelong resident of the Clover area and was retired from the Spencer State Hospital. She taught school in one-room schoolhouses in Roane County and was a member of the Keffer Methodist Church. She is survived by three daughters, Annabelle Craddock of Spencer, Nancy Conrad of Huntington and Ola Mae Wright of Oldsmor, Fla.; one son, Noland L. Webb of Milton; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Acie Noland Webb, in 1986, five sisters and two brothers. She was born in Tyler Country on Feb. 4, 1926, to the late Albert and Rosa Hawkins Harter. Dora was a longtime member of Chesterville United Methodist Church. During WWII she went and worked in factories to help our troops. She loved to garden and especially enjoyed growing roses and irises. She was skilled at crocheting and quilting and supplied her family with many of her pieces. She was a fantastic cook and would make her meals all homemade. She loved her family very much and would always try to keep everyone in touch with each other. She is survived by one daughter, Joyce Scott (Clarence) of Mineral Wells; five sons, Jim Conner (Paula) of Warsaw, Ind., Darryl Conner (Cathy), Gary Conner, John Conner, and Paul Conner (Darlene), all of Mineral Wells; two step sons, Don Conner and Roy Conner (Marge) both of Mineral Wells; five grandchildren, Angie, Becky, Jenny, Isaac, and Katie; seven great-grandchildren, Toni, Darryl, Jacob, Victoria, Lincoln, Evelyn, and Alex; one sister, Geneva Posten of Akron, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends, Debbie Kent and Lois Mohr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, R.C. Conner, four brothers, six sisters, one daughter in law, Dorothy Conner The funeral service will be held on Monday, 3 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home Parkersburg, with Steve Morgan officiating. 38497 | Doris “Jeanne” Staats Hunter, 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Jackson General Hospital in Ripley. Jeanne “Grannan” Hunter, our family matriarch --she always wanted to hear about everyone, and listened intently. She had a wonderful caring way of making everyone feel special. Her strong Christian beliefs, fun-loving attitude, advice to make you feel better and do the right thing, plus wonderful recipes, are only part of what made her our most precious wife, mother, and grandmother. Jeanne was a strong family person who deeply cared for not only her family but her community as well. As a founding member of the Junior Woman’s Club in 1956, she made it both a personal & community mission to bring a healthcare facility to Jackson County. She played an instrumental role as one of the founders of Jackson General Hospital, served as president of the board, and countless terms on the executive committee. She is also a dedicated member of Calvary United Methodist Church of Ripley for over sixty years where she held church positions from nursery to administrative board and spent over 15 years leading the Chancel Choir. Jeanne was born on December 31, 1934, in Gassaway, WV and then moved to become a lifetime resident of Jackson County. She was a graduate of Ripley High School and then attended Ohio University where she majored in Journalism. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, James M. Hunter of Ripley; her children, Russell Hunter (Nikki) of Ripley, Margaret Nester of Huntington, Luke Hunter (Mitsy) of Ripley, and Rebecca Duke (Mike) of Clemmons, NC. She and Jim have 10 grandchildren: Chris, Michael, and Julia Hunter, Tori Nester, Rose (Nester) Cooper, Ryan Hunter, Sarah (Hunter) Kyer, and Amanda, Abbie, and Mack Duke, as well as 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Lois Casto of Ripley, and Margaret Ann Hall (Bill) of Harrisonburg, VA. Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Margaret Staats, a son, Robert Mark and a great grandson, Colby Kyer. She was born May 15, 1938, in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Sullivan Artho and Zola Santee Kirby. Dorothy was a homemaker and will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Surviving is her husband of 49 years, Donald D. Conner; two daughters, Pam Conner and Barbara Miller and her husband, Roger, all of Mineral Wells; one sister, Lenora Haverty of Mineral Wells; one brother, Clyde Kirby of Mineral Wells; one grandson, Rick Conner and his wife, Melissa; two great-grandchildren, DJ and Ricki Conner; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant sisters. 38500 | Douglas Richard Lewis March 30, 1951—August 22, 2018 On Wednesday, August 22, Douglas R. Lewis, dear husband of Linda Lancaster, passed away at his home in Landrum, SC. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, August 27, at First Baptist Church Gowensville, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Schmidt. Visitation will follow the service in the Family Life Center. Douglas was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, to missionary parents, the late Rev. Kenneth Paul and Eunice Douglas Lewis. He attended the Alliance Academy in Quito, Ecuador, where he was an active soccer player. Douglas received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geography from Bowling Green State University (OH) and was a Fulbright Hays Scholar in Ecuador. He also attended the Na-tional Intelligence and Policy Program at Harvard University’s JFK School of Government. During more than 27 years of service as an Army Intelligence Officer (Foreign Area Officer - Latin America), Douglas had duty tours in Korea, Germany, and served as a combat intelligence ad-visor for two years in El Salvador. He also served on the Army Staff and the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the Pentagon where he was known for his in-depth knowledge of global affairs and quick sense of humor. He provided daily briefings to the Chief of Staff of the Army and to the Chiefs of Operations and Intelligence of the Joint Chiefs, among others. For his service, Douglas was awarded numerous personal and unit decorations, including the Defense Superior Service Medal and the Legion of Mer-it. He was at work in The Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Upon his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel, Douglas and Linda moved to the Landrum area where they enjoyed their many pets, a wonderful view, and the great food in local restaurants. He continued to stay abreast of world affairs and taught geography as an adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina Upstate, Spartanburg, where he enjoyed mentoring his students, and they, in turn, recognized him as one of their favorite professors. His real passion, however, was sports, and he had an encyclopedic knowledge of world soccer teams, players, and standings. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Linda Day Lancaster, his older brother Kenneth (Sue) of Lansdale, PA, and their children and grandchildren.
