38534 Ethel Faye Landers
(October 5, 1921 - June 4, 2009)

Ethel Faye (Taylor) Landers, 87, of Point Pleasant, died in Holzer Hospital in Gallipolis, Ohio of congestive heart failure on Thursday evening, June 4, 2009.

Born in Jackson County on October 5, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Leander Taylor and Rachel Minerva Cobb Taylor. About 1929, in order to be closer to their older children who were working in Charleston , they moved to Charleston where she lived for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Leolin Velber Landers (December 28, 2006) and five brothers Charles Harvey, James Wilfred, Jessie Willis, Clifton Otis, Denna Russell; and 4 sisters, Gracie Gay, Amy Pearl, Thelma Mae, and Nellie Lee.

She was a homemaker at their Mason County farm near Point Pleasant, and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

She was an active gardener and a great cook who enjoyed keeping an immaculate, well organized home for her family. They always looked forward to her delicious meals and great desserts, such as strawberry cream pie and cobblers of every kind, all with homemade melt-in-your mouth crust. She once remarked that she would rather make a home for her family than be President of the United States. In addition, she often worked on the farm alongside her husband.

Education was very important to her and she dedicated herself to seeing that both of her children were college-educated.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn Faye Landers (Edward Davis) Terry of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; her son and daughter-in-law, Barry Lee (Annette Margaret Bird) Landers of Point Pleasant; and four grandchildren, Kathleen Faye Terry of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Edward Davis Terry, Jr. of Gresham, Oregon, Deborah Elisabeth Landers (Kenneth) Stewart of Charleston, and Douglas Lee Landers of Charleston.

Graveside services will be 1 P.M. Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans, at the Corr Serenity Mausoleum on top of the hill near the chapel and bell tower. The Rev. Richard K. DeQuasie, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, will officiate at the service. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church Homebound Fund, P.O. Box 228, Point Pleasant, West Virginia 25550.

Ethel's care has been entrusted to Crow-Hussell Funeral Home. An online registry is available at: www.crowhussellfh.com.

38536 Eva Maxine DeGarmo
Birth: Feb. 8, 1920
McWhorter
Harrison County
West Virginia, USA
Death: Aug. 15, 2014
Sabillasville
Frederick County
Maryland, USA

Eva M. DeGarmo, 94, of Sabillasville, Maryland, formerly of Harter Hill Community, Worthington, peacefully entered into eternal life Friday (Aug. 15, 2014).

Born and raised in McWhorter, she was the youngest daughter of the late James C. and Dacie Squires Casto and the loving and devoted wife of Frank DeGarmo, who died in 2001. Eva and Frank were married for 60 years.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a 2-year-old son, Patrick Lynn DeGarmo; and two sisters, Doloris Clevenger and husband Clifford and Dorothy Ullom and her husband Roy.

She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Stan and his wife Lauren DeGarmo of Orange Park, Florida; a daughter and her husband, Richard of Sabillasville, Maryland; grandsons and great-grandsons, Eric Long and Hunter and Keegham DeGarmo and Holden and stepgrandson Scott Riggs; and nephews, James M. Clevenger and his wife Veronica of Jane Lew and Jim Ullom and his wife Cheryl of Springfield and their children.

She and Frank began married life in Homeland. She helped her husband operate their general store and gas station in Homeland. In 1947 they moved to Fairmont and remained there until 1976 when they moved to their farm on Harter Hill in Worthington. She was a wife, mother and homemaker and helped out her husband at their tractor business.

Just taking care of her home and family gave her the greatest pleasure. She enjoyed the retirement years and all the animals she had. She also enjoyed spending the winters in St. Petersburg, Florida, and visiting and enjoying her grandson and great-grandson.

In 2007, she moved to Sabillasville, Maryland, to live with her daughter.

She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church in Fairmont for 50 years, where she was a member of the Women’s Society, Lydia Ladies Circle, and a member of the choir. Living in Maryland, she was baptized by immersion into Christ and attended the Catocin Church of Christ as much as her health allowed. She and her husband were active members of the Farm Bureau.

Friends may call at Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. today, with Richard Long officiating. Burial will follow in Broad Run Cemetery in Jane Lew.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.

38537 Eva RHODES GREATHOUSE
Funeral services for Mrs. Eva RHODES GREATHOUSE, 66 years old, who
died Saturday in the Saint Francis hospital in Columbus, Ohio, were
conducted Thursday at the Vandale Funeral Home. The Rev. W. S. OVERSTREET
officiated and burial was in the Spencer cemetery (Roane County, WV.)

The only daughter of the late John and Mary Allen RHODES, Mrs.
GREATHOUSE was born October 16, 1876, at Gay, (Jackson County). In 1917 she
married W. G. GREATHOUSE and moved to Akron, Ohio. She had been suffering
for the past five years from pernicious anemia. Last Thursday she became ill
of pneumonia and died two days later. Her only near survivors are three

brothers, Dennis, Dayton and Fred RHODES, all of Spencer, (Roane County,
WV.) Another brother, Emmett RHODES, was killed while fighting with the AEF
in France in 1918. Mrs. GREATHOUSE was the step-mother of Mrs. Ray ARCHER,
of Ripley. (Jackson Herald, Fri., 26 Feb 1943)

38547 Family traditionally assumed Kesiah's last name was "MANN". Additional searching promotes the possibility that her name may have actually been "WHEELER."

Ella Hazel SMITH CASTO had told her daughter Hazel Wahaneta CASTO THOMISON that her great grandmother was a man (sic: MANN). Tradition may have incorrectly assumed the maternal instead of the paternal ancestry.

Additional research indicates that the MANN was married to a FARSON instead of a GARD.
