Baker

The first settler of whom I have any account at the mouth of Fallen Timber and Rush Run after Hartley and his daughter, was Elijah Baker. He was born in 1815, and died February 12, 1896, aged eighty years. He was a son of John Baker, who lived below the mouth of Conrad's Run, on Reedy. He married Nancy Wolfe. A daughter of James Wolfe, who settled at the mouth of Elk Fork, on Mill Creek, soon after she was born.

Nancy Baker was born in 1815, and died June 30, 1902, at the age of eighty seven years.

Baker settled here many years ago. He kept a country store at the mouth of Rush Run several years, and was the first Postmaster at Leroy. When I first knew the country, he lived on the hill above the road, where Mike Tatterson now resides. He was a strong Union man, and had a child killed about the beginning of the war.

Wolf family:
Nancy Wolfe married Elijah Baker, of Reedy, and lived at Leroy, on Sandy. Their children were Dal Baker, who married a Johnson, Frank who married Alice Stout, and America, who married John Spencer.

Clark: According to the 1988 Parsons book, Charles W. was a deaf mute as a result of childhood measles. He died Aug. 17, 1929 (unm.).

Joshua, son of John Parsons, married Joanna Stewart, a niece of “Old Billy Stewart”. He was one of the earliest settlers on Seamon Fork, of Reedy. He made the first improvement on the Newhart farm there, about 1847. Later, about 1849, he built near where the old well on the Perry Hall farm at the head of Little Creek stands (John Hall said “Devil Bill” Parsons lived there before Joshua did.) Joshua afterward returned to Grass Lick, and died on Middle Fork of Poca. His children were:
Moses.
Elizabeth, married Nathan Hill.
Allen, married a Rhodes.
George W., married Sarah J. Rhodes.
Jack (Gen. Jackson), married Delila Burdett.
Benson, married a Green.
Charles, (was deaf).
Sarah Jane.
Analiza, married ‘Preacher” Honaker.

There is a rumor that Hiram was not a Timberlake, but that he went by the name Sayre. Mark and William are Sayres.

http://genforum.genealogy.com/timberlake/messages/677.html
In a message from Larry Blackman:
Here is a quote from my book, Willcott, Kay, Timberlake, and Allied Families: "In time, Pleasant Timberlake married, probably second, Hannah Sayre, widow of Ezekiel Sayre. They were enumerated in the 1840 census of Jackson County, Virginia (now West Virginia). Unfortunately, Pleasant was murdered and 'put down into a well.' Hannah was pregnant, when her husband disappeared. In 1842, the child was born , and she called him Hiram Sayre, instead of Timberlake, 'because Sayre was the name of her other kids by Ezekiel.'" So if Janet Sargent is right, a child (and maybe the only child) of Pleasant Timberlake and Hannah (Gilman) (Sayre) Timberlake was Hiram Sayre.

John House "Pioneers of Jackson County"
Another pioneer on Left Fork of Sandy was Isaac Cheuvront, who came to Jackson County in 1831. . .
Isaac Cheuvront was born August 24th, 1802, and died March 22nd, 1896, aged ninety three years.

John Wesley Carder was born and reared in Harrison County. He married , and lived there until his older children were married and had homes of their own. He then, early in the winter of 1838 or 9, decided to follow his brother-in-law, Washburn, to the fertile valley of Big Sandy Creek in the new County of Jackson.

Washburn had preceded him by several years, and now Carder, Stutler, and a neighbor by the name of Cheuvront, packed their rude belongings and followed him to the new West, where land could be had at a nominal price and game was yet abundant. Stutler, it is said, came by the overland route, arriving sometime in January. Carder and Cheuvront took the long way by water, down the West Fork past Clarksburg, and down the Monongahela by way of Pittsburgh, and the Ohio River to Ravenswood, reaching their new home in April.

From Maridale Moore bilmarmor@opendoor.com
Martin (Van Buren) Rand was my great-grandfather. I have a pretty complete picture now of the family. William and his family headed west in 1850. They travelled on the Ohio River to St, Louis where Margaret became ill with cholera and died, she was buried there. William continued with his children to Dane C. WI, where they lived for two years until William died. The children moved to La Crosse Co. WI where the older children managed to keep the family together. I have a feeling some of the other Rands moved at the same time. I'm still piecing it together.
Some time around 1870 the Martin V Rands moved to Iowa, their first two children were born in Wisconsin, the last four in Iowa. In 1884-5 they moved to Hood River OR. Along with Robert and family, and two uncles.

LLoyd Cemetery - on hill near Church of Christ at Millwood
Lloyd, Anna Feb 28, 1783 - Jan 5, 1877; Wife of Thomas Lloyd
This one is listed twice, the second time it says it is on the old Thomas Lloyd farm near the Church of Christ
Space for 6 or 8 graves in cemetery. But it appears hers is the only stone.
