John House:
George Parsons settled the next place above Little's, about 1830.
The site of his cabin I have not been able to make out. There are two old orchards on the place now, one on a point across the road from the house, and a little below, the other about two hundred yards lower down the creek, and on the opposite side, in a bottom cut off by a bend in the stream. There is no sign of a house there now, but at the upper site, there is an old house on the bank above the road, among some trees. If either orchard dates back to the first settlement, it is probably the lower one.
George Parsons died about 1838. His wife was Sarah Lyons (See Mill Creek History).
His son, George Parsons, died on lower Trace Fork a few years ago. Another son, Charles Parsons, was the father of J. W. Parsons, some time assessor of the first District, and Isaiah Parsons a former County Superintendent. Charles Parsons lived on the home place, some say. His sister, Mrs. Rhodes said he moved to Charleston. Another son, Fielding Parsons, was a Union soldier, and died at Ravenswood three or four years ago. A Flinn lived on the Parsons place afterwards.

John House:
WOLFE FAMILY

The next farm is a mile or more above Hyre's and just below Elk Fork, and was known as the James Wolfe farm. It has for many years been the residence of Summerfield Thomas.
James R. Wolfe was born and raised near the fort on Hacker's Creek, not far from the present village of Jane Lew.
Here is a "curious incident" related in Withers' "Chronicles of Border Warfare', page sixty seven:
"Jacob Wolfe, in digging a well on Hacker's Creek, found a piece of timber, which had evidently been cut off at one end, twelve or thirteen feet in the ground, --- marks of the axe were plainly visible on it."
James R. Wolfe married Frances Beath, a sister of Mary Beath, who married Jacob Hyre. One informant says that after her death, he returned to Lewis Count, and married the widow Straley.
He died on the farm above mentioned, and was buried on the point back of the house. There are several persons buried at this spot, but are now no markers, and it has long since ceased to be used for burial purposes. It is even said that some years ago, the then owner commenced to plow it up, but became frightened and desisted, fearing ghosts would retaliate. Mrs. Thomas (Hogsett) Rader says there used to be a gravestone marked "Lizzie".
The children, as given by the widow of the late James Wolfe, were:
Abe, Joe, Jake, Tommy, Jim, Lon, Mary, Katie, Nancy, Peggy and George.
James R. Wolfe and wife moved to Mill Creek in August, 1821, bringing with them eight children. With them came Francis King and wife and Jacob Wolfe, thirteen persons in all, and they brought all their goods and everything on five horses. They were four days on the road, and never inside of a house in that time.
They first settled at the Wash Rader farm, near the mouth of Station Camp, now the residence of Mr. Charles Shinn.
The immediate object of the move was to find a better hunting ground.
Jonathan Wolfe, who came with Tanner to Spencer in 1812, is said to have been a brother. He married Bridgett Runyan, a sister of Henry Runyan.
James R. Wolfe's children were:
Abraham Wolfe was born March 25th, 1811, and married Emily Boswell, in 1835, lived for many years on Parchment, and died the spring of 1904. His children were C.M., Nohemiah, Adam, John, Jane who married Isam Rhodes, and Virginia, who married G.P. Morrison. The O.J. and C.S. Morrison, merchants, were their sons.
Joseph Boath Wolfe, born in 1819, married in Lewis County, at Hacker's Creek, to Elizabeth Alkire, a daughter of Nicholas and Elizabeth Bonnet Alkire, in 1842, and a year later moved to Roane County. He died in 1895, and she died March 21st, 1911. Elizabeth C., their daughter, married John W. Daniels.
Jacob Wolfe, born in the early 1800's, married Sally Boswell. Aunt Sally died at the age of seventy seven years.
George Wolfe built the first house where John Rader now lives, 1907. Mrs. Ludwick says his first wife was a Crites, and his second a Bord.
James G. Wolfe married Lizzie Straley, and lived on Station Camp. He was born in 1826, and died December 26th, 1889. She died December 22nd, 1911, aged eighty four years.
Thomas Wolfe married Susan Garnes and went west.
Margaret Wolfe married Isaac Crites.
Rebecca Wolfe married Charles Parson, Jr.
Nancy Wolfe married Elijah Baker, of Reedy, and lived at Leroy, on Sandy. Their children were Dal Baker, who married a Johnson, Frank who married Alice Stout, and America, who married John Spencer.
Mary Wolfe married Lenox Armstrong.
It is stated that the grandmother of Elizabeth Alkire Wolfe was a daughter of Jesse Hughes.
A Lewis Wolfe lived on Elk Fork at the place above Ellet Hyre's, no date given.
Reece Wolfe was a local preacher from Monongahela, who settled on the Little Kanawha before 1799. He was probably not connected as his name was at first spelled "Woolf".
C. M. Wolfe was a son of Abram, whose second wife, Jemima Kessell, died in 1872.
[I don't have Katie & Lon]
JCMR shows a marriage of Katharine Wolf to Richard Cadwahender, 4/11/1841 - could this be 'Katie' mentioned by House?

Other names identified with the early history of Cow Run are King, Boswell, frequently spelled "Bozzle", and Hartley. Descendants of all of these still live in the vicinity.

Francis and John King, who live on Cow Run, are sons of Elijah, who was a son of the Francis King who came to Mill Creek with James Wolfe, in 1821.

Noah STAATS - was born October 23, 1804, in what is now Wood county, West Virginia. He was a son of Elijah and Margaret (Atkier) Staats, long since deceased. In 1810, bringing their six-year old son with them, Elijah and Margaret (Atkier) Staats became residents in Jackson county, then a part of Virginia. Here the subject of this sketch has passed the larger part of his life, and in Grant district, where he engaged in farming for many years, he is spending the last days of his life. His marriage was consummated in Meigs county, Ohio, Harriet Bradfield becoming his wife there, on the 10th of May, 1832. She was a daughter of Zachariah and Mary (Wells) Bradfield, and was born in Hardy county, now in West Virginia, the date of her birth, April 1, 1809. For two years, 1863-5, Noah Staats filled the office of justice of the peace in his township. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Staats have the following record: Henrietta (Rardon), born March 13, 1833, and Mary A. E. (Morehouse), born
August 16, 1835, live in Grant district; Margaret (Lobdill) , born May 19, 1837, died January 19, 1875; Rowena (Rardon), born June 19, 1839, and Eliza (Smith), born February 25, 1841, live in this district; Sarah A. (Woods), born August 7, 1842, and Rebecca C. (Lee), born August 21, 1844, live in Ravenswood district, this county; Joseph Y., born April 26, 1847, lives in this district; Charles W., born May 4, 1849, lives in Illinois; Harriet M. (Buckley), born August 5, 1853, lives in Grant district. Those of the family living on the homestead receive their mail at Ravenswood, Jackson county, West Virginia.

This is one of the biographical sketches of Jackson County residents from "Hardesty's Historical and Geographical Encyclopedia... Special History Of The Virginias ..1883."

Death record for John shows his mother's name was Curry, per Tawnya Michie Kumarakulasingam

There is no record I have found of Phoebe, but a Phoebe West of this age married David Shouldis in Roane Co, stating she was born in Jackson Co.

Hardesty's History of Jackson County
Ravenswood DistrictCalvin Marvin WEST - was a son of Thomas and Mary (Flesher) West, who became residents in what is now Jackson county, West Virginia, when it was a part of the frontier lands of Virginia, in 1811. He was here born, at Parchment Valley, Jackson county, January 17, 1819, grew to manhood, was married and entered upon the labors of a farmer in Ravenswood district. His wedded life began October 4, 1837, when Phebe Curry became his wife, and their children have the following record: J.W., born May 5, 1839, and R. N., March 1, 1841, live in Jackson county; Mary Ann, September 13, 1842, deceased; T.B., June 9, 1844, lives in this county; A.J., March 2, 1846, lives in Mason county, West Virginia; A.G., October 4, 1847, lives in Nebraska; W.C., April 30, 1850, lives in Kentucky; Julia A., February 13, 1852, lives in Mason county, West Virginia; Elizabeth A., February 5, 1854, lives in Harrison county, West Virginia; Annie F., August 28, 1856, lives in Jackson county. Three of these sons were participants in the civil strife; Andrew J. and Robert as members of Company K, 11th Virginia Infantry; J.B. was first a member of the 9th Virginia Infantry, and afterward of the 4th Virginia Cavalry.

Calvin M. West filled satisfactorily the office of poor overseer, 1860-1875. In 1842 he settled on his present farm one and three-quarters miles back from Ravenswood, when settlements round about were comparatively scarce. Then a wagon road was an unknown thing, but settlement has so increased that now a hundred wagons pass daily. He receives his mail at Ravenswood, Jackson county, West Virginia.
