Martin's autobiography was printed in the "History of Clay County, Indiana" by William Travis (New York: Lewis Pub. Co., 1909), Vol. 1, pp. 242-244 in which he gave his birthdate, his family’s move to Mason county in 1817 and his marriage to Jemima Harpold on 6th April 1826 in Mason County, Virginia.
