From the Columbus Citizen, dated Jan. 26, 1923:
MIDDLEPORT -- Captain Joe A. Anderson, 95, old Ohio River
steamboat commander, is dead at Mason City. He went on the
river at 17 and in the Civil War ran a transport with supplies for
General Grant in the siege of Vicksburg.
