  Pioneer History of Meigs Co, OH to 1949: John Newton, Sr, mariner, born about 1639, lived at Anlaby, England. Eldest son of Thomas Newton, of Kingston-upon-Hull, a city famous for it maritime trade and shipbuilding. Resided in Westmoreland co, Va by 1676 or 77; name first appeared there in 1672.
