William J. Pust, 89, of Waynesburg, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009, in his home.
He was born January 2, 1920, in Snowden, a son of the late John and Mary Slack Pust.
Mr. Pust was a retired chief of police of Jefferson Borough in Allegheny County. He was previously a professional boxer and baseball player. He played with the Homestead Grays.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In 1987, he was ordained as a Baptist minister and had served churches in McKeesport, Elkins, W.Va., and Marietta, Ohio.
Mr. Pust was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Lippencott and was a 32nd degree Mason in Pleasant Hills Masonic Lodge.
On November 29, 1941, he married Mercedes G., who died November 2, 2009.
Surviving are a son, Harlan W. (Georgann) Pust of Jefferson; a daughter, the Rev. Linda J. (Bill) McNatt of Simpsonville, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Harlan E. (Peggy) Pust, Dareck W. (Ronda) Pust, Lois J. Pust, Raelene (Larry) Koller, Melinda (Tom) Wyatt, Matthew (Shannon) Munsick and Marc (Wendy) McNatt; 11 great-grandchildren, Noah Pust, Hannah Pust, Abigail Pust, Alex Pust, Logan Koller, Leah Koller, Linda Kelley Kilgore, Hunter Munsick, Tyler Munsick, Luke Munsick and Whitney McNatt; a sister, Rose Bowen of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, John Pust and Frank Pust; and three sisters, Mary Hardinger, Ann Taylor and Helen Fefolt.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 12, in Faith Baptist Church, Lippencott, with the Rev. Paul Roofner officiating. Entombment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township.

Helen Fefolt, 91, of Dublin, Ohio, formerly of Finleyville, died Saturday, February 9, 2008.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth (Donna); a daughter, Marion (Ed) Whiteman; granddaughters Andrea and Lindsay; a brother, William (Mercedes) Pust; and a sister, Rose Bowen.
Deceased is her husband, William.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 14, in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 3609 Washington Avenue, Finleyville, PA 15332.
