Mildred Hannum Robie
Mildred Hannum Robie, 84, departed this life October 4, 2011 at Teays Valley Hospital, with loved ones by her side.
For the past six months she had been a resident at Angel Avenue Assisted Living in Teays Valley. Prior to that, she and her late husband, Selly Edwin Robie, who died July 24, 2003, had lived in the East End since they came to Charleston in 1949.
She was born September 18, 1927 in Mount Alto, a daughter of the late Charles Elmer and Harriet McDermott Hannum. Her brother, Charles Hannum, and sisters, Gaye Donahue and Ada Lee Click, also preceded her in death.
She was a gentle, loving and supportive mother and grandmother who was happiest when surrounded by family. She was a quiet, thoughtful woman and a devout Christian who attended First Christian Church in Charleston for many years. There she participated in many prayer and women's groups and served as an elder. She and her late husband took communion to shut-ins, a ministry which gave her great joy and satisfaction. At the time of her death she was a member at United Disciples of Christ Church.
She loved language structure and words, and worked as a proofreader for many years, first at Charleston Newspapers and later at Legislative Services, from which she retired.
The family would like to thank her doctors, John Kelly, D.O., her physician for many years; and, more recently, Stephen Dawson, M.D., and E Michael Robie, D.O., for the excellent care given to her during the last years of her life. They would also like to thank the staff at Angel Avenue for their kindness and loving care and the staff on the Med/Surg unit at Teays Valley Hospital for their wonderful care and their unfailing kindness to the family.
Survivors include her children, Michelle Bogan (Michael) of Columbus, Ohio, Rebecca Robie of Charleston, Randall Robie (Mary) of Powell, Ohio, and Daniel Robie (Donna) of Kannapolis, N.C.; grandchildren, Catherine and Christopher Bogan, Andrew and Diana Perfater, E Michael Robie (Cathy), Nikole Kilbert (Chris) and Matthew Robie; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Miles Kormanik, Quinn and Grace Robie and Lakyn and Layna Kilbert; sister, Elsie Mae Durst of Niles, Ohio; brother, William D. Hannum of Cottageville; many nieces and nephews; very special niece, Betty Jo Lee; and dear friends, Dottie Baugh and Estella Wilson.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Casto Funeral Home, Evans (near Ripley) with Pastor Ed Bellville officiating. Burial will follow in Otterbein Cemetery, Evans.
Visitation will be one hour prior to time of service.
The family suggests donations to the Food Ministry at United Disciples of Christ Church, P.O. Box 6763, Charleston, WV 25362.
