Death: Jan. 28, 1858

Peter Hinkle, husband of Margaret Jane Burnside Hinkle and son of Leonard and Mary Cunningham Hinkle. Peter was a farmer and our family traditions tells us that Peter cut himself while grubbing out a tree on his farm in the 1850's. The cut became infected with gangreen and a high fever left him brain damaged. He was sent to the Western State Hospital (admission date 04/21/1856) where he died on January 28, 1958. There is no record of his death at the Augusta County Court House, however the Western State Hospital Collection at the Library of Virginia records that the cause of death was Pulmonary Consumption.
The Library of Virginia records says that his hair was black, his eyes brown and his complexion was dark.
Work is being done by Dick Johnson (dick.j@verizon.net) on the Western State Hospital of Virginia records. If you have questions about your family members contact Dick, he's doing a great job helping us find information that has been lost until this time.
