Bessie S. Taylor of Charleston died at the age of 91, at her home on Oct. 8, 2004, after a long illness.
She was the daughter of Timonthy Layne & Emma Florence CAVENDER.
She fell asleep surrounded by her six children, and many grandchildren. She awoke in the arms of Jesus. Her husband, Ova V. Taylor, and eldest daughter, Pansy Moss, who preceded her in death, also welcomed her into heaven. She was a devout Christian.
Her legacy continues in her surviving family: daughters, Penny Rutherford, and her husband, John, of Charleston, Phyllis Hammack, Pearlene Baker and her husband, John, and Pauline Ferrell, all of Sissonville; sons, Ova Patrick and his wife, Dena, of Sissonville, and Paul Taylor at home; sisters, Lucille Anderson, and Alberta White, both of Sissonville. She was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
People gathered from all around to enjoy her Sunday Cooking. She loved gardening, and working outdoors. Her passion for growing strawberries earned the title "The Strawberry Queen." She was also nominated for West Virginia's Mother of the year in 1999. But those who knew her and loved her most will always admire her strong work ethic, her dedication to family, and her captivating, loving smile. Oh, how she loved Jesus. He was her source of strength and hope.
