Peter Waggoner, a son of John and Margaret (Bonnett) Waggoner, was born in Harrison County March 13, 1787 and died in Lewis County May 26, 1879.
On May 7, 1792 marauding Indians raided the John Waggoner cabin and killed Margaret (Bonnett) Waggoner and four of her children. The carried Peter and his sisters, Mary and Elizabeth into Ohio. Mary was released in 1792 and Elizabeth in 1794, but Peter remained in Ohio until 1812, when he was spotted in Ross County Ohio and his father notified. John went to Ohio and after much talking persuaded him to return to Lewis County for a visit. Although Peter had an Indian wife and two children, he agreed to go. When it was time for him to leave, his relatives imprisoned him until he agreed it was too late to go back to Ohio.
Eventually, he met and married a widow, Catherine (Hardman)
Hyde in Harrison County Va (WV) November 2, 1814. Catherine, a
daughter of Peter and Charlotte (Lazier) Hardman, was born in Harrison County VA (WV) February 26, 1784 and died in Lewis County WV April 2, 1867. She married James Hyde Jr. in Harrison County March 20, 1801.
