WOMAN WITH 89 DESCENDANTS PASSES AWAY

Eighy nine descendants are left to mourn the death of Mrs. Mary E. J. Walker, who died yesterday afternoon at 3:20 o'clock, at the home of a son, Gilbert Walker, of Brushy Fork after an illness of paralysis. Mrs. Walker was born in Jane Lew and lived here sixty eight years. She was taken to Brushy Fork when she was first stricken with paralysis. She suffered a second stroke Tuesday evening. The descendants include eight children, forty six grandchildren, and thirty five great grandchildren. Mrs. Walker lived to see five generations but the only great great grandchild died last summer.
Mrs. Walker was a daughter of Noah Haskins and Nancy Devers Haskins. Her dad came to Lewis County from Eastern Virginia. She was married to George M. Walker who died ten years ago.
Mrs. Walker professed Christianity when she was a girl but did not join a church until about a year ago when she became a member of the Brushy Fork Methodist Protestant Church and the pastor at that time was Rev. Creed Yoak.
Surviving Mrs. Walker are five daughters; Mrs. Charles (Lucy) Casto; Mrs. Daisy Bond of Lightburn; Mrs. Odie Cain and Mrs. Emma Huff both of Lost Creek, and Mrs. Edna Burkhammer of Akron, Ohio; three sons; Gilbert Walker of Brushy Fork; Claude Walker and Robert Walker of Lightburn; one brother William Haskins of Salem, WV.
Funeral services were held in the Broad Run Baptist Church with the Rev. Creed Yoak and the Rev. A. Reed of Jane Lew, pastor of the Bridgeport Methodist Protestant Church. Interment was in the Broad Run Cemetery.
