Eva M. DeGarmo, 94, of Sabillasville, Maryland, formerly of Harter Hill Community, Worthington, peacefully entered into eternal life Friday (Aug. 15, 2014).
Born and raised in McWhorter, she was the youngest daughter of the late James C. and Dacie Squires Casto and the loving and devoted wife of Frank DeGarmo, who died in 2001. Eva and Frank were married for 60 years.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a 2-year-old son, Patrick Lynn DeGarmo; and two sisters, Doloris Clevenger and husband Clifford and Dorothy Ullom and her husband Roy.
She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Stan and his wife Lauren DeGarmo of Orange Park, Florida; a daughter and her husband, Richard of Sabillasville, Maryland; grandsons and great-grandsons, Eric Long and Hunter and Keegham DeGarmo and Holden and stepgrandson Scott Riggs; and nephews, James M. Clevenger and his wife Veronica of Jane Lew and Jim Ullom and his wife Cheryl of Springfield and their children.
She and Frank began married life in Homeland. She helped her husband operate their general store and gas station in Homeland. In 1947 they moved to Fairmont and remained there until 1976 when they moved to their farm on Harter Hill in Worthington. She was a wife, mother and homemaker and helped out her husband at their tractor business.
Just taking care of her home and family gave her the greatest pleasure. She enjoyed the retirement years and all the animals she had. She also enjoyed spending the winters in St. Petersburg, Florida, and visiting and enjoying her grandson and great-grandson.
In 2007, she moved to Sabillasville, Maryland, to live with her daughter.
She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church in Fairmont for 50 years, where she was a member of the Women’s Society, Lydia Ladies Circle, and a member of the choir. Living in Maryland, she was baptized by immersion into Christ and attended the Catocin Church of Christ as much as her health allowed. She and her husband were active members of the Farm Bureau.
