ARTHUR HINER RHODES, 86, a resident of Davis and formerly a resident of Norton, departed this life Saturday, June 18, 2005, in Davis Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health. He was born Wednesday, Oct. 16, 1918, at Wymer, a son of the late Charles Olie Rhodes and Lena Waybright Rhodes. On Dec. 6, 1943 at Baltimore, Md., he was married to the former Jessie Ketterman, who preceded him in death Jan. 31, 1984. Surviving are three sons, David Rhodes of Thomas, Daniel Rhodes and wife, Shirley, of Davis and Joseph Rhodes of Thomas; one daughter, Linda Okernick and husband, Robert, of Davis; nine brothers, Everett, Charles, Raymond, Earl, Forrest, Willie, Harry, Ralph, and Ronald Rhodes; eight sisters, Louemma, Faye, Marie, Margie, Wretha, Irene, Emmagean and Roseanna; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen and James Rhodes; three brothers, Jim, McClellan and LLoyd; two sisters, Donna and Retta; and one grandson, David Arthur Rhodes Jr. He attended the schools at Glady, had served with the U.S. Army, was a coal miner, was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Davis and was an avid outdoorsman and farmer. The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins today from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral chapel Tuesday, June 21, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Eli D. Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Arthur Hiner Rhodes.
