EARL COFER RHODES, age 84 years, a native of Glady, WV, and a resident of French Creek, WV, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, September 6, 2017 at his home, following a courageous battle of cancer. His loving family was by his side and he was under the care of Peoples Hospice.
He was born October 28, 1932 at Bergoo, WV, a son of the late Lloyd Albert and Emma Ellet Hamrick Rhodes. On April 10, 1952 at Glady, WV he was married to the former Ruthlene Mallow, who survives. They had celebrated sixty-five years of marriage. Also surviving are two sons, Jimmy Lloyd Rhodes and wife Kathy of French Creek, Earl Tommy Rhodes and wife Pattie of Buckhannon; two daughters, Roselea "Rose" Neely and husband Kenny, and Juanita Andrew all of French Creek; six brothers, Forrest Rhodes of Byron, GA, Willie Rhodes of Fairmont, Harry Rhodes of PA, Ralph Rhodes of OH, Ronald Rhodes of NY, and Clark Rhodes of Glady; three sisters, Alice Shifflet, and Roseanna Rhodes, both of Elkins, Lanna June Canada of Charleston; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-eight great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are two sons, Clinton and infant Jackie Rhodes; two brothers, Norman and Darl Lester Rhodes; and two sisters, Georgie Rhodes, and Emma Jean Mussi.
He attended the school at Glady and Elkins High School. He was a Woodsman, a Coal Miner and retired from the former Moore's Business Forms. Following his retirement, he worked on the family farm raising cows and chickens. Mr. Rhodes was a great outdoorsman enjoying fishing and hunting, loved telling his hunting stories and being with and spending time with his family.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Friday from 4 to 8 PM. On Saturday morning, September 9, 2017, Mr. Rhodes will be moved to the French Creek Methodist Church at French Creek, where friends may call from 10 until 11 AM the funeral hour. The Rev. Bob Heavner will officiate and interment will follow at the French Creek Memorial Gardens at French Creek.
