Shirley was diagnosed with cancer just 17 days prior to her death and passed peacefully in her home. She was active and living a full life with her beloved husband, Arlen Charters, in Longwood, FL prior to her death. Shirley is survived by her only child, Vickie McLeod, of Orlando, FL; two grandsons, Brandon and Kyle; and five great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Carmean (Wayne), of Gotha, FL; brother, Robert Raines of Young Harris, GA; brother, Charles Raines (Darlene), of Dixie, GA; and sister-in-law, Jean Raines (Richard). Shirley moved to Orlando in 1950 where she graduated from Boone High School. She worked for many years for the Orange County tax collector's office in the accounting department. Shirley had a love of history and genealogy as well as flower gardening and puzzles. She was a kind and gentle woman who was loved and respected by all who knew her. A memorial to celebrate Shirley's life will be held on June 4th, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Markham Woods Seventh Day Adventist Church, 505 Markham Woods Rd, Longwood, FL 32779.
