Thompson, 90, of Pomeroy, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital. Born on Feb. 8, 1922, in Roane, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Elic and Ella Halbert Payne. Alice was a member of the Winding Trail Garden Club, Shade Valley Garden Club and Meigs Master Garden Club, and had been a longtime 4-H adviser. Her hobbies included quilting and gardening. She is survived by her children, Louella (Wayne) Roush of Houston, Texas, George C. Thompson of Pomeroy, Ohio, and Fred R. Thompson of Hendersonville, N.C.; five grandchildren, Valerie Roush Allman of Spring, Texas, Kathryn Mitchell of Middleport, Ohio, Laura (James Frame) Mitchell of Middleport, Ohio, Karyn Thompson of Hendersonville, N.C., and Matthew Thompson of Hendersonville, N.C; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Budd of Campbellsville, Ky., Ellen Kirk of Richmond Dale, Ohio, and Louise Boland of Fairfield, Calif.; brothers, John (Opal) Payne of Vinton, Ohio, Joe (Ann) Payne of Virginia, and Dave (Annalee) Payne of California; sisters-in-law, Pat (Roy) Holter of Pomeroy, Ohio, and Polly Thompson of Cheshire, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert "Bob" Thompson; a daughter, Marianna Mitchell; and a granddaughter, Amy Thompson Shuler. Services will be held on Saturday, April 7, at 2 p.m. at the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, April 6, from 5-8 p.m., and on Saturday two hours prior to the service.
