Our beloved mother, Delores Jean Vannoy Jones Boggess, 72, of Charleston, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 8, 2006, in Dunbar, after a train collided with her car.
She was born a sweetheart on Valentine's Day, on her aunt Gaytha's birthday, February 14, 1934. She was a daughter of the late C.O. and Gladys Vannoy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Genlee Boggess; and brother, James Vannoy.
She is survived by her children; daughters, Dr. Deborah Jean Jones Baldwin and her husband Michael of Teays Valley, Denise Jones Hicks and her husband Carl, and Michelle Boggess Siders and her husband Merl; and sons, Michael Cleo Jones and Alfred Fred Jones. She had 10 grandchildren, Karlina, Teresa, Delores Jessica, Cristal, Chelsea, Brandon, Ashley, Hali, Josh, Merl Jr. " Peanut", and Brandon. She had four great-grandchildren, Cloey, Noah, Nevaeh and Karli.
Our wonderful mother, and matriarch, is also survived by her sisters, Patsy Spearman and Joann Paxton, both of Charleston, Kitty Thatcher of California and Margaret Mitchell of Georgia; and brothers, Robert and Roger Vannoy of Charleston.
Our sweetheart of a mother had a host of life-long friends, as she was a former grocery store owner and landlord to many, with her late husband, H.R. "Hardy" Boggess. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Our dear mother, Delores, enjoyed life to the fullest, traveling and having fun with her children and friends. She loved celebrating holidays, birthdays, and cooking. She enjoyed going to Bingo, Tri-State Game Center and the Smokehouse to "try her luck" and socialize with old friends and family. She was a lucky lady with a giving and loving heart. On the other hand, "we, her children and family, were the fortunate ones" to have her in our lives. She was known as "Baby" by her friends, with her big, beautiful, friendly, positive, personality and dimpled smile. She could make you smile when you were feeling sad. Children of all ages appreciated her "giving and loving" nature. She touched lives in so many ways that no one can describe.
The family would like to thank Kathy Siders and so many other close friends and church members for all the love and support during our loss.
