Elverton Hill served with Ohio's 1710. He enlisted as private at age 34 with Company H, 7th calvary regiment on 27 Oct 1862. Elverton received a disability discharge due to injuries on 23 February 1863 in Danville, OH. He was listed as being discharged at Peace Valley, Missouri. Like so many cavalry regiments in the western theatre of the Civil War, the 7th Ohio seems to have spent its entire enlistment in the saddle and on the move, scouting at the front of the lines or guarding the rear, and engaging in engagement small and large. Organized at Ripley, Ohio, in October 1862, the regiment was first deployed in Kentucky, and later Tennessee, where they spent nearly a year and a half combating guerrillas and protecting Union lines
