Pole Touches Utility Line, Man Killed
Wilberforce, O. - A 42 year-old construction worker was accidentally electrocuted yesterday afternoon while helping install a new street lighting system on the campus at Central State University.
Killed instantly in the mishap was Harold P Jones of Dexter in Meigs County.
Jones was helping install an aluminum light pole when the top of the pole came into contact with a high tension line.
His brother-in-law, Joseph W Garnes, of the same town, also was helping install the pole, but suffered only blisters on his hands.
"I guess it just wasn't my time to die," authorities quoted Garnes as saying.
Both men were employed by the Pence Construction company of Columbus, the firm which has the contract for improving the lighting system on the college campus.
The accident happened at 3:45 p.m. on Third Avenue, in the rear of the campus.
Fellow workmen tried to revive Jones with artificial respiration, but there was no respones to their attempt.
They said Jones took two or tree steps and fell to the ground.
