  Notes	The Gallipolis Journal August 1896 Death of a Venerable Lady. Rachel McCarty Coughenour 05 Aug 1896 Mrs. David Coughenour, living in Cheshire township, died Wednesday night of a complication of troubles. She was the mother of a large family, an active member of the Kyger Baptist church and a venerable lady, who commanded the universal esteem of a wide circle of acquaintances. Interment took place Friday at Grave Hill cemetery. "Peace be to her ashes."

(gives list of children) David Coughenour died at his home near Cheshire, Saturday, April 14, 1900. He was born in Augusta County, Va, Aug. 6, 1820. He came to Gallia Co. with his parents in 1830 and settled in Cheshire township,where he has always lived. He married Rachel McCarty in 1843. They were the parents of eleven children, two sons and nine daughters, all save two daughters surviving him. He had held, membership with the First Kyger F.W.B. Church since 1841. He was a man of great worth to the church and community. His funeral was held Monday morning at the church, services conducted by Rev. W.J. Fulton of Rio Grande, which was largely attended.
