The subject of this sketch was born in East Virginia, June 1st, 1809, emigrated to Ohio with his parents in 1812, settling in Gallia County where he has since lived. He married Elizabeth Rothgeb May 12, 1837. They were the parents of eleven children, eight of whom, with the aged companion and mother, survive him. He was stricken with paralysis one year ago, from which he never recovered. He professed faith in Christ in 1851, and united with the Second Kyger Free Will Baptist Church. He ever tried to live an upright, consistent Christian life, and his brethren feel that truly a strong pillar in the church has fallen. His funeral services were held at the church October 20th, which was largely attended, and his mortal remains were laid in the churchyard (beside those who preceeded him)in resurrection hope, Funeral services by Rev, WJ Fulton.

Elizabeth Rupe and Sanford York, Adm of Henry Rupe vs. Jane Hacket,
      Ch 1, 104-109. Apr 22, 1837. Frac 6 in Cheshire
Henry Rupe bought land from J Hacket who did not give him the deed, Moses Russell deeded it first to Jeremiah Hacket, dec, who sold it to Rupe. Jane said her husband mortgaged land to Daniel Rathburn in 1824. Her husband dided without getting the money about July 1826. Left 8 children, all but one a minor. Jane could not pay money due. May 20, 1830 she agreed to sell 11 of 100 acres to Rathburn and she used the money to pay him. Her son, Basil Hacket, has since paid Rathburn off. She stated that she was ignorant of the law and did not know that she could not sell 11 acres, but she has since been told she could not, so did not furnish a deed. Rathburn has refused to let her buy it back and has lived there. Henry Rupe died May 20, 1836. Land ordered returned to Jane and Jane to pay costs.
