  Notes	From Jackson County, Past and Present: He and brothers came to America when he was 20, landed in Port of New Orleans. From there he traveled to New York to study English before coming to the Ohio River Valley. His neighbors had difficulty pronouoncing "Sallaz" as he said it with his French accent and for years they called him "Silas". About 1843-44, he purchased 48 acres on Mill Creek, Jackson county from Andrew Wilson. He married Sarah Reynolds daughter of Reuben and Virgina Reynolds, Spring Creek, Roane county and had 9 children. Ferdinand fell or was struck by timber from the derrick while working at a salt well near Hartford, Mason Co. He lay in bed a long time, either crippled or ill. Buried in cemetery near New Haven, WV. Sarah died 1885, buried in Boyce Cemetery, Locust Grove, Jackson Co.

The photograph, taken in 2008, shows the stone is cracked and eroded and the number of years is pretty much gone. But the year of her birth is probably 1829 or maybe 1858.
