      Gallipolis Journal -- Wednesday -- 22 December 1886
CHESHIRE ---- For some time those most intemately connected with Mr. Jacob Coughenour, have noticed signs his mind wandering, caused, as the physicians claim, by the veins leading to his brain becoming clogged; his condition has changed gradually for the worse until it was found necessary to keep constant watch over him; he has attempted self-destruction on several ocassions. The Probate Judge was called one day last week and Mr. Coughenour was declared insane. While his realtives may reluctantly admit it will no doubt be best to convey him to Athens. Jacob Coughenour was one of the most influential and respected men in the county; he always had the good of the people foremost in his mind and wilingly did as much as any other person for the benefit of the community; tis sad to think his misfortune and his friends calamity.
