      RIPLEY - A. Ford Winters, 88, of Ripley died May 14, 1999, in Ravenswood Village Health Center after a long illness.
      He was a probation/parole officer for the state, sovereign grand secretary of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a former schoolteacher and was instrumental in the construction of the Ripley Senior Citizens Center. He was a member of the Jackson County Commission on Aging, Odd Fellows Lodge 30, Ripley, Rebekah Lodge 19 and the Silver Haired Legislature. He was past president of the Ripley Rotary Club and a member, lay speaker and Sunday school teacher of Calvary United Methodist Church.
      Surviving: wife, Macel Warner Winters; sons, Gene of Ripley, Robert of Savannah, Ga.; daughter, Lena Rawlings Wolford of Ripley; brother, Harl of Ripley; eight grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
      Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Calvary United Methodist Church, Ripley, with the Rev. Charles Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Fairplain Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Parsons-Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, where there will be an Odd Fellows service at 7 p.m., and one hour prior to service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Calvary United Methodist Church Building Fund, 205 Court St., Ripley, WV 25271.
