  Notes	allipolis Journal -- Wednesday --9 July 1890 OBITUARY ---Sophia McCarty was born April 18, 1813, in Cheshire township, Gallia county, Ohio. She was the youngest in a family of 12 children, one one of whom survives her. Her parents, Jonas and Catherine McCarty, emigrated from Shenandoah Valley, Va. to Cheshire, Gallia Co., O., in the year 1798, being amoung the first settlers of Cheshire Township. Sophia, being the youngest, remained at home and cared for her aged and infirmed until they were both called to their heavenly home. On the 10th of August, 1851, she married Solomon Swisher. In the fall of 1856 the emigrated to Mason Co., Ill. In the year of 1863 he died and left her amoung strangers with two children. In the same year she, along with her children, came back to Ohio amoung her relatives, where she has remained since. Mrs. S. Swisher died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. Boice, May 26, 1890, in the 78th year of her age. Her religious association and life were in the Baptist faith. She was an up-right Christian in her life.
