Thomas is son of Hezekiah Kittle, and Margaret T. SMITH, both born in Beverly, Randolph County, Virginia (before West Virginia statehood)
He married Phoebe Ellen Phillips, November 1, 1838, Randolph, Virginia. He was a farmer. They had at least 6 children.
1857, Thomas and family appear on the census of Cannon Falls, Goodhue, Minnesota.
Thomas served in Civil War, Confederate, Private, Company F, 46th Battalion Virginia Cavalry. He enlisted June 1, 1863, Jackson County, Virginia (WV), however was listed as prisoner of war in October, 1863. He was captured by Union Capt. Williamson in Roane County and sent to Camp Chase, Ohio, November 1863.
January 14, 1864, Thomas was transferred to Rock Island, Illinois, POW. Listed as Confederate, Private, Company K, 19th Regiment Virginia Cavalry
The 1870 census lists Thomas and family residing in Boyd County, Kentucky with married daughter Caroline 'Carico' & children. This record indicates both Thomas and Phoebe were born in 'Virginia'
By 1880 census family is living in Huntington, Cabell, West Virginia. Widowed in 1884, he lives in Jackson County, WV with married son Moses Kittle family.
The 1900 census indicates both his parents are born in Kentucky. Son Moses claims birth WV however would have been Virginia in that year.
