      ~~~
      A heart attack last Thursday morning was fatal to Archibald Alonzo Reynolds, 79 year old farmer and businessman, of Evans, as he sat in the home after returning from the fields where he had gone to work that morning. Dr. T. E. Rymer said that death caused from a severe heart attack and that death had been sudden. He was one of the well known citizens of the county and has been engaged in business for a generation. A native of the county, he entered the mercantile business at Fairplain many years ago and conducted a successful business there. Later he moved to Evans where he conducted a general store until a few years ago when he retired from business. He had always enjoyed reasonably good health, was active in business and civic affairs and was one of the most highly respected citizens of the county. When the news w as flashed of his sudden death, which was a shock to friends and relative s alike, there was many who recalled some kind of deed "Archie" Reynolds had done for them during his life time or some word of encouragement he had spoken. The funeral services were held at the Otterbein United Brethren Church on Saturday morning under the directions of Rev. E. E. Roush, pastor of that church. The music was furnished by the United Brethren Church, of Ripley, Rev. Fred Slaughter read the scripture and Rev. Curtis Robin son made the prayer. Burial followed in the cemetery at Fairplain. The flower girls were six granddaughters; Virginia Casto, Marie Litton, Mildred Bennett, Freda Casto, Permelia Roach, and Hazel Casto, assisted by two others, Faye Oldham and Mildred Stewart. The pallbearers were eight of his grandsons; Fred Sayre, Thaw Stewart, Willard Casto, Orville Sayre, Clayton Stewart, Raymond Casto, Archie Casto, and Owens Casto. We have shared his joys, we now pay our grateful tribute. This hour we unite our heart s with all the sorrowing ones. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife, children and relatives, may each one look to Him, who can comfort and bless. Heaven drops it's charm of richest gifts upon the sad hearts. (Jackson Herald, 26 July 1935)
      Archibald Alonzo "Archie" Reynolds was born near Fairplain, Jackson County, October 10, 1855, died at his home at Evans, July 18, 1935, aged 79 years, 9 months and 8 days. He was united in marri age to Permelia Ann Shinn Casto, and to this union four children were born, namely; Mary, Minnie, John, and Della, the son d ying in infancy. He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife and three daughters, Mrs. Mary Sayre, Mrs. Minnie Casto and Mrs. Della Long, all of Evan s; two step-daughters, G. W. Casto of Evans, and Mrs. Flora Stewart of Ripley. Two brothers, Charles Reynolds of Fairplain, and Silas Reynolds of Bidwell, Ohio; 19 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. (Jackson Herald, 26 July 1935)
      Mrs. A. A. Reynolds will be 81 years old on December 27, 1936. She was a daughter of George Shinn, born 1855 in Mason County, on Thirteen Mile Creek. She was the only girl in a family of six children. When she was nine years old the Shinn family moved to Jackson County, settling at Fairplain, then called Grass Lick . It was there that fifteen year old Parmelia Shinn became Mrs. Thaw Casto. Mr. Casto died when his two children, W. G. and Flora (now Mrs. Bert Stewart) were small. Later his young widow married A. A. Reynolds, and their children are: Mary (now Mrs. Jeff Sayre), Minnie (now Mrs. James Casto), and Della (now Mrs. Marshall Long). Besides her children, Mrs. Reynolds has seventeen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren living. (Jackson Herald, 25 Dec 1936)
      Funeral services for Mrs. Permelia Ann Reynolds w ere held at the Ripley United Brethren Church Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o 'clock with the Rev. Roy Davis, of Cottageville, in charge and he was assisted by Rev. Harry miller. The body was taken to the Fairplain cemetery for interment. The Vail Undertaking Company had c harge of the arrangements. Mrs. Reynolds, who would have celebrated the eighty-eight (88) birthday next month died at her home at Evans Sunday evening following an illness of mote than a month. She was a daughter of the late George W. and Elizabeth Stone Shinn, and was born on Thirteen Mile Creek on December 27, 1855. When she was fifteen (15) years of age she married Thaw Casto, who died eight years later. By that marriage she was the mother of two children, George Wallace Casto of Evans, and Mrs. Flora Stewart of Ripley. On December 18, 1879 she married A. A. Reynolds, who preceded her in death eight years ago. Surviving from that union are three daughters, Mrs. Mary Sayre and Mrs. Della Long, both of Evans, Mrs. Minnie Casto of Ripley. One child, John, died in infancy. Other survivors include one brother, J. O. Shinn of Point Pleasant, seventeen (17) grandchildren, twenty-seven (27) great grand children, and six (6) great great grandchildren. Although she was older than her brothers, friends Tuesday recalled that she had her full share of sorrows because she had seen one of her children, her husbands, and her parents, as well as all her brothers, except one, precede her in death. Among the brothers were the late S. F. Shinn, R. P. Shinn, N. U. G. Shinn, and John A. Shinn. (Jackson Herald, Friday, 19 November 1943)
