Lucille Waybright McLeod, 92, formerly of Charleston and Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2010, in Westerville, Ohio.
The daughter of the late Leoma Cottle and A.D. Johns of Gay, Lucille was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Grover W. Waybright; and their two sons, John D. and James W. Waybright.
A brother, Ray Johns; and sisters, Geneva Clay, Garnet Argabrite, Helen Davis and Willadean Miller, also preceded her in death.
After her second husband Gordon McLeod died in 2000, Lucille relocated from Florida to Columbus, Ohio, to be closer to her daughter.
Lucille is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Jerry Fox, Charleston, and Patricia and Gary Henley, Columbus, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Jo Waybright, Dalton, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Ike Hardman, Parkersburg; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Lucille and Grover were the founders and owners of The Rose City Cafeteria in Charleston, South Charleston, and St. Albans, and The Rose City Gift Shoppe until their retirement to Punta Gorda, Fla., in 1973, when daughter, Jean, and son, Jim, took over the Charleston businesses.
In Florida, they opened another Rose City Cafeteria and operated it until Grover's death in 1980.
A devout Christian, Lucille and Grover were founding charter members of the Bible Center Church in Charleston.
In Punta Gorda, Lucille was very active with the Community Baptist Church and in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, Grace Baptist Church.
After her marriage to Gordon in 1991, they divided their time between Prince Edward Island and Punta Gorda.
Lucille had a lifelong interest and involvement with foreign missionaries and mission projects and, with Gordon, was responsible for building a Christian school.
She loved to bake, cook, and create a place at the table for those in need. Her warm hospitality was shared with friends, near and far. We'll miss her smiling face, hymn singing, sweet prayers, servant heart, and loving arms, for all who crossed her path.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Lucille Waybright McLeod will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 22, in the chapel of Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with the Rev. Dave Bogue officiating.
Interment will follow in Evans Cemetery, Gay.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
