      Gladys Virginia Robey Armstrong

Gladys Virginia Robey Armstrong, 94, passed away at Worthington Manor Nursing Facility in Parkersburg on July 24, 2010, following a lengthy illness.

She had resided in Lubeck for 77 years. Gladys died exactly one week before reaching her 95th birthday.

She was born July 31, 1915, in Jackson County, W.Va., daughter of the late Harry O. and Maude E. Shaver Robey.

Gladys was the widow of Leonard L. Armstrong, to whom she was married for 60 years prior to his passing in 1993.

Gladys started working at a very young age for The American Viscose, Ames Shovel Plant (during World War II), Vitro Agate Marble Factory, Valley Bell Dairy Store, and she retired at age 72 from the Farm Fresh Store on Blizzard Drive. She had also helped babysit with two of her grandchildren (Greg and Todd) while they were in grade school. Her grandson ("Hank") resided with her for several years before his marriage. She was a Baptist by faith. When she was younger, she had been an active member of the Ladies Aide Society of Bethel Baptist Church, and an active member of The Lubeck (Day) Homemakers Club.

She was an excellent cook, enjoyed working outside in her flowers, and making trips to Florida with her husband (to visit relatives). She very much loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her aging years, Gladys looked forward to spending many hours each day talking and visiting on the telephone with her many cousins, friends and family members. She was greatly loved, and will be missed by all.

She leaves three daughters, Myrna Cochran of Parkersburg, Karen (Keith) Rippeto of Lubeck and Linda (Ted) Weaver of Washington, W.Va.; five grandchildren, William Todd (Pam) Cochran of Lubeck, Tami (Terry) Sams of Washington, W.Va., Keith (Carla) Rippeto Jr. of Parkersburg, Michael (Deena) Rippeto of Washington, W.Va., and Kenneth "Hank" (Rita) Daley Jr. of Lubeck. She also leaves 11 great-grandchildren, Gregory Cochran, Stephen Cochran, Keri Sams, Whitney (Adam) Dobson, Lindsey Sams, Matthew Sams, Dylon Rippeto, Nate Rippeto, Kayla Rippeto, Corey Rippeto and step great-grandson, Jordan Lowers. Gladys leaves two nephews, several cousins, and her beloved faithful companion, her Beagle dog, "Bandit."

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her in-laws, Arthur and Jane Armstrong; an infant daughter; brother, Carl Robey; sister, Norma Ward; son-in-law, William H. (Bill) Cochran; grandson, Gregory Wayne Cochran; and a nephew, Buddy Robey.

The family would like to acknowledge with sincere thanks the tireless support and kindness of the following persons, her caregivers daughter, Linda, grandson, Hank, and Tammy Dowler. Thanks also to Dr. Steven Richards, Housecalls Hospice and the Staff at Worthington Manor.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg, with the Rev. Mark E. Parsons II officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery at Washington, W.Va. Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
