Obituary of George Sherman -
A Sherman Pioneer Gone: George W. Sherman died on Mar. 3, 1924 at the home of his niece Mrs. William Rose, of Booker, Texas. The Sherman District was named after him. He spent 42 years in Wash. State locating friends and developing resources. He established the Sherman post office and kept a grocery store for the convenience of the farmers of that district. He affectionately cared for his mother, who died at the age of 92 years.
In 1909, he sold his farm and visited friends in Texas, bought a farm in Oklahoma, and finally homesteaded in Alberta, Canada, where affliction overtook him and compelled him to flee to his friends in Texas where he expired at the age of 75. During the last years of his life he regretted selling his Sherman farm.

GEORGE W. SHERMAN, wh at the present time is a leading merchant of
Sherman, is a man of substantial qualities and wealth as is evidenced by a
review of his career which is appended herewith.
George W. Sherman was born in Jackson county, W.Va. on the banks of the
Ohio river. His parents were Isaac B. and Samaria (McClanathan) Sherman,
natives of Massachusetts. The mother was born on Nov. 1, 1805 in Palmer, of
the Old Bay State. . . .
Mr. Sherman has one sister, Amanda M. and two half sisters, Sallie and
Elizabeth. He also has two half brothers, Lyman Stedman and Henry C.
Sherman. . . .
