Jackson County, W.Va. — HARLEM SPRINGS, OH – Edwin “Digger” Odell Rector, 81, of Harlem Springs, OH passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at the Carroll Healthcare Center in Carrollton following an extended illness.
A son of the late Thomas and Estella Howell Rector, he was born in October 10, 1929 in Ravenswood. Odell worked at Weirton Steel for 38 years before retiring to spend his time as a square dance caller in the tri-state area.
Along with his wife, the former Marla Stockdale, he is survived by a son, Bruce Rector of Carrollton, OH; daughter Odette (Garth) Standard of Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three brothers Darrell Rector of Malvern, OH, Delbert Rector and Richard Rector, both of Carrollton; three sisters Pauline Postlewaite and Edith Brown, both of Weirton and Irene Johnson of Carrollton.
One sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 15 in Sweeney-Doods Funeral Home in Carrollton, OH, with Rev. Dan Loomis officiating. Burial will follow in Harlem Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
