The wife, aged 32, of Merrill Grimes, of Dexter township, last week mortgaged a piece of land that belonged to her in her own right, and with $500 thus obtained, eloped with one David Foreman, a married man, aged 38. She has three children, all of whom she deserted.

The wife of A. M. Grimes, of Rutland township, who recently skipped out with
another man had not since at our latest advises, been heard from.

David Foreman and Mrs. A. M. Grimes, of Dexter, who alleged to have eloped
some weeks since, have returned home, on separate trains, and declare by all
that is good and bad that the public and social talk about them is all a lie,
that they didn't go way together and that there has been nothing improper in
their personal relations. Unfortunately for the credit of their protestations
of innocence, it is shown that they were in Athens over one night, when they
put up at Cornell's boarding house, near the depot, and occupied a single
room containing but one bed. So it is averred by one E. A. Nelson, of Dexter,
who came to Athens and personally investigated the part the alleged elopers
played while here.
