    • H.F. Pfost Taken Saturday Morning
      H.F. Pfost. a well known business man, died at his home in Ripley Saturday morning after several weeks' illness. Mr Pfost at the time of his death was cashier of the Bank of Ripley, an institution which he had helped to organize and had been one of its main stays as an official and as a stockholder. Mr Pfost's name so closely connected with the bank, for many years that, to mention him was to thin of the bank.
      Mr Pfost was a quiet unassuming business man. A home loving, devoted husband and kind father. His outstanding characteristic was a sympathetic heart and a generous hand for those that met with the reverses of life.
      Henry Floyd Pfost, one of the leading citizens of the county, passed from among the living at his home in Ripley May 2nd, 1936. He was born near Fairplain and was the son of Francis Marion Pfost and Cloah Koontz Pfost.
      He was united in marriage to Flora Lorene Crow April 17, 1895. She died October 21, 1915. One son, William Marion Pfost, survives. His second marriage was to Blanche Miller, November 27, 1919. Mrs Pfost and three young sons, Joe Fielding, John Justus and Francis Miller Pfost survive him. He is also survived by a brother, George W Pfost and two sisters, Miss Alice Pfost and Mrs Maggie Winter, and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann and Flora Jean Pfost, daughter of MW Pfost.
      Mr Pfost was reared on a farm a Fairplain but when a young man he came to Ripley where he started life as a clerk in a drug store owned by Dr Kidd. He later bought Mr Kidd out and for a quarter of a century he conducted the business. In 1891 Mr Pfost with a number of other men organized the Bank of Ripley. He became the bank's first cashier and from that time to his death he was the guiding spirit in the institution.
      Mr Pfost had that good quality of helping those in sorrow and need. He was one of the town's boosters, always willing to give his money and time to any and all enterprises that he thought would help the people.
      He as been a leader and a great stay to the M E Church, South. The ministers always had his true and never failing support.
      Funeral services were held at the ME Chruch, South, Monday afternoon. Rev J L West of Parkersburg and Rev J R Withrow conducted the services. Burial was made in the Pine Hill cemetery.
      The pall bearers were:

      Honorary pall bearers were O J Morrison, O P Oldham. O J Stout, G B Crow, J B Elliott, H S Armstrong, Dr G W Simmons, G E Straley, Sattis Simmons, A J Humphrey, W E Walker. A A Lilly, George Kinney, T Clayton Parsons, C R Kessel, W F Boggess, Dr T E Rymer, Homer H parsons, W H Waybright, Enoch Staats and C W Starcher.
