Was a Private in Company C, 9th West Virginia Infantry along with his brother Reuben. Brother Calvin was in Company F and Uncle Stewart was in Company K. He was captured and sent to the infamous Confederate prison at Andersonville, Georgia where he contracted Pleuritis and died on March 21, 1865.
The 9th WVI was consolidated with the 5th WVI on November 9, 1864 to form the 1st Regiment, West Virginia Veteran Infantry. He is listed on the roster of Company C there also.
He is interred in grave number 12807, Code 22807 Andersonville, Georgia.
