Daniel was a farmer. They settled on the Smith farm on Mud Lick, where Daniel continued to preach until his death. Daniel built their house around the 1890's. There were many Smith Reunions held at his house in the hollow. Around 1928, Daniel married Mary. He was about 80 years old. She called her husband "Mr. Smith". His second wife is buried in Shiloh Cemetery on Leon Bauden Road in Leon, West Virginia. Daniel is buried in Mt. Olive Cemetery next to his 1st wife, Mariah.
