To all whom it may concern
Know ye, that Valentine Kinser, a Private of Captain Wilsons Company, (E)Eighth Regiment of West Va Infantry ___ volunteers so was enrolled on the Sixth day of November one thusand eight hundred and sixty one to serve three years or during the war, is hereby discharged from the service of the United States, this ninth day of May 1864, at Charleston, WVa by reason of tubecular deposits in apex of right lung with marked strenuous diathesis ____ totally disqualified for service in Veterans Reserve Corps.
Said Valentine Kinser was born in Russell in the State of Virginia, is Forty-three years of age, six feet - inches high, dark complexion, Black eyes, black hair and by occupation when enrolled, a farmer.
Given at Wheeling WVa this Ninth day of May 1864.

This day came the plaintiffs by their attorney, and it appearing from the oath of the Sheriff that the defendants have been legally notified, they were solemnly called and not appearing it is considered by the Court that the plaintiffs have execution against the defendants for $100.80 1/2 the penalty of said bond, and their costs by them in this behalf expended; But to be discharged, by the payment of $30.40 1/4 with interest thereon to be computed after the rate of six per centum per annum from the 26th day of October 1839 till paid, and the costs.

There has been speculation that Valentine Kinser's father was Michael Kinser, b abt 1758 in Lancaster Co, PA and d abt 1822 in Wythe Co, VA, and Elizabeth Unknown, b abt 1760 and d 1848 in Wythe Co, VA. Michael and Elizabeth were married on 4 Sep 1783 in Montgomery/Wythe Co, VA.
In the 1820 Census for Russell Co, VA are listed both Walter Kinser (my ancestor) and Michael Kinser (believed to be his brother, Michael). Michael oldest son is listed in the age bracket of 16-18, which would be correct for Valentine Kinser. If this is true, the line would go back to Johann Jacob Kinser, b abt 1715 in the Duchy of Zweibrucken, Germany,and d 1775 in Tate's Run, Montgomery/Wythe Co, VA, and Anna Newman, b abt 1724 possibly in Cecil Co, MD or Lancaster Co, PA, and d 2 Feb 1803 in Tate's Run, Wythe Co, VA.

Sarah V Kinser, 7/1859, Valentine Kinser & Eliza, Pond Creek, Jackson Co, farmer, reported by Eliza Landon, mother [1860 census shows Eliza Landon married to Thomas Landon, with Sarah the youngest of 5 children, Eliza born Ohio, Thomas born NY. Pond Creek is located where Jackson County meets Wood County at the Ohio River. Since Eliza is still living with Thomas a year after this birth, I doubt that she really reported it as a Kinser birth. This birth record was typed, was a mistake made when the written records were typed or when it was written? should be Rebecca Jane and perhaps the two entries were combined when transcribed. It does not appear to be reported as a Landon birth, and the Kinsers lived about as far away from the Landons as you can get and still be in Jackson County.]
