Obituary
Joseph Ott was born Dec 17, 1795, in the South West Corner of Fayette Co, Pa., and in his thirteenth year moved to and settled in Reedy Valley in what is now known as Wirt County, W.Va., and at about 14 years of age, settled on Lynn Camp run, where he lived till the day of his death, February 23, 1889, being in his 94th year, and for over three quarters of a century was never over 30 miles from his home, where he reared a family. The deceased leaves but one of the early pioneers behind him viz: Mrs. Mary Ott, relict of his brother Fidillis, who is this day 93 years old. Mr. Ott remembered many of the incidents and trials of early pioneer life; and of the "war of 1812." Frugality, industry and temperance marked his pathway through life, spending his leisure hours with his bible and two or three other books, Keeping health of mind and body till about the last decade of his life. His remains were intered by the side of his wife (who died over 43 years before him) in the "Ott Graveyard. Four of his children survive him.
