W. Dale Parsons
W. Dale Parsons, 86, of Cross Lanes passed away at home Wednesday, July 9, 2008.
Dale was a retired engineer for the state of West Virginia with 12 years of service, an Army Air Corps veteran, and a member of Nitro Masonic Lodge 170 AF&AM and the Scottish Rite Bodies.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Gae Hatcher Parsons; his parents, James W. and Ella Mae Skeen Parsons; and his brother, Oral Parsons.
Dale graduated cum laude from Morris Harvey College and held master's degrees in industrial and mechanical engineering from WVU. Dale loved to collect and repair antique radios. He was a writer and had published a book about his wife's struggle with Alzheimer's disease “Dementia - The Mind - A Terrible Thing To Lose.” Some of his other published works were “Crossroads,” “Harlans Hounds,” “The Worm” and “Henry The Great.” Dale was the holder of two patents.
Dale is survived by his son, Bill Parsons of Mansfield, Arkansas; his grandchildren and their spouses, James and Tammy Parsons, Tamara and Mike Higgins and Terri and Keith Hocott; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Alex Parsons, Graecyn Higgins and Sarah and Ryan Hocott; his brother, Zane Parsons of Kenova.
A celebration of Dale's life will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, with Pastor Ron Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
There will be a gathering of family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
