    • Adam BOARD

Death, following a long illness Thursday, claimed one of Jackson County's oldest citizens, Adam BOARD, 95-year-old resident of Clay Lick. A youth of 15 at the outbreak of the Civil War, Mr. BOARD was born January 16, 1846, near Ripley, a son of the late Thomas and Sarah HARPOLD BOARD.
Growing to manhood when much of this section was still in pioneer stage and timbering was the principal business besides farming, the aged man witnessed the transitions and developments that occurred here during a period of time that covered almost a century. Engaged in farming, Mr. BOARD spent his entire life in Jackson County.
He was married three times, his third wife, Forest Rose KESSEL, surviving. Besides his wife, he is survived by several nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and friends. Early in life he joined the Bachtel United Brethren church and throughout his life he remained a member of that church. He was 95 years, 11 months and 22 days old. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Vail funeral home with the Rev. L. R. MAHONEY, pastor of the Ripley United Brethren church officiating. Burial was made in the HARPOLD cemetery. (Jackson Herald, Fri., 16 Jan 1942)
