Gladys Thaxton
Gladys Thaxton, 81, passed away Friday, May 25, 2007, at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Kenna after a short battle with cancer.
She was born on March 14, 1926, in Charleston, to the late Joseph Burton “Burt” and Mary Relina Raines.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Fred Tate Thaxton; and her sister, Glada Spencer of Melbourne, Fla.
She retired from Rose City Cafeteria in South Charleston as the morning cashier after 20 years of service. She also worked at J.C. Penney's for 191/2 years in Charleston, and in Melbourne, Fla.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Fletcher Arnold; stepchildren, Cassidi Wriston and her husband Jonathan of Rand, and Craig Arnold of Kenna; sisters, Glenva Martin and her husband Walter of Pliney, Loretta Gay Hill of Howey-in-the-Hill, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 28, 2007, at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with Pastor Mike Rader officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Memorial Park.
A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.
