81, Gay
GAY - Joseph Rollin Payne, 81, of Gay passed away at his home August 28, 2008.
He was born November 11, 1926, the son of the late Theodore and Della Coon Payne. He worked for the International Union of Operating Engineers, was a farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ivy Lee Payne, son Cameron Payne, brothers Homer Payne and Nelson Payne, sisters Jessie Smith and Elva Walker, along with one granddaughter.
He is survived by daughter Rebecca Jane Canter of Dohoquater; sisters Reva Tolley of Ripley and Janet Butts of Tennessee; grandchildren Jill Smith of Gay, Jennifer Cronson of Dohoquater, Brittney Patterson of Gay and Bridget Patterson of Gay; along with 10 great-grandchildren.
Service was held Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at Vail Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville. Friends called from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Vail Funeral Home of Ripley served the family.
