Dale Flarence Barr, of Leon, WV, departed this life October 17, 2005 in the Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, OH, following an extended illness.
He was born September 9, 1922 in Rockcastle, WV, a son of the late William Robert and Flora Ann (Hoschar) Barr. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Mae (Sayre) Barr; brothers, Ray, Arthur, and Junior; sisters, Edith Boone, and Nellie Casto.
He was a WWII Navy veteran, and was on board the U.S.S. Missouri during the Formal surrender of Japan. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp, and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local #317 Huntington, a life member of the VFW, Ripley, and member of the Mount Tabor Community Church, Leon.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Carol Rae (Burton) Barr; sons, Charles Burton Barr, and Dale James Barr, both of Leon, Hazen Edward Barr of Dresden, OH, and John Reuben Barr of Germany; daughters, Luwanna Ann King of Pataskala, OH, Viola Jean Mattox of Leon, Virginia Mae Rayburn of Wooster, OH, and Sybil Sue Curry of Sandyville; brother, Rev. Charles Basil Barr, of Parkersburg, WV sisters, Inez Brotherton of Given, and Delores Casto of Leon; 22 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren.
Service was at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2005 at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, WV, with the Rev. Leo Howerton and the Rev. Basil Barr officiating. Burial followed in the Creston Cemetery, Evans, with full military honors provided by the Jackson County veteran’s organizations. Visitation was from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
