    • SPENCER - James Freer Berkhouse, 79, of Spencer died March 10, 1998, in Memorial Division, CAMC, after a short illness.

      He was a retired driver from Atlantic Greyhound with 36 years' service and author of the book "Broomsedge and Greenbriers." He attended Zion Methodist Church.

      Surviving: wife, Irene Randolph Berkhouse; daughter, Judith Douglass of Malden; son, Neal Randolph Berkhouse of Lorton, Va.; two grandsons, one great-grandson.

      Service will be 2 p.m. today at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. J. Herbert Smith officiating. Burial will be in Clover Cemetery.
