Clyde F. Abbott, 85, of Clendenin, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 30, 2008, at home after a short illness.
Clyde was a World War II Army veteran, a member of both the VFW Post 8516 and Steel Workers Local 3-628 and was retired from Columbia Gas Transmission.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie H. and Edith (Ashley) Abbott; son, Clyde Randall Abbott; brothers, Volley, Roy, Opie, Lesley, and Richard; sisters, Nora Abbott, Ova Swiney, Opal Abbott, and Juanita Abbott.
Survivors include his wife, Lecta Jean (Shamblin) Abbott; son, Danny Abbott and wife Jill of Clendenin; daughter, Cheryl Smith and husband Rick of Elkview; brother, Robert Abbott; sisters, Elizabeth Bierwirth, Imogene Sloan, Irene Brisendine, and Pauline Parker; grandchildren, Julia Danielle Dodd and husband Gary, Natalie Dawn Abbott, and Amanda Nicole Smith; great-grandchildren, Gary Daniel Dodd, Haley Elizabeth Dodd, and Gracelynn Maxine Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to HospiceCare.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at Matics Funeral Home in Clendenin with the Rev. Junior Holly officiating. Burial will be at Shamblin Cemetery in Clendenin with the Rev. Ronald Swiney officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
