Hays Alfred Carpenter, 92, of Ripley passed away April 2, 2009, at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley.
He was born September 17, 1916, in Belgrove and was a son of the late Sammuel M. and Nancy E. Casto Carpenter.
After serving in the Army, he retired from Kaiser Aluminum. He was a member of Grasslick Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and, most of all, spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eris Carpenter; brothers, Bert Carpenter and Brady Carpenter; and sisters, Rada Hutton, Glada Horn, and Celia Young.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Carpenter; daughters, Sandra Nutter of Ravenswood, Joyce (Rick) Boggess of Goldtown and Karen (James) Starcher of Ripley; sisters, Freda Reynolds of Ripley, Myrtle Scarbrough of Dunbar, and Francis Gray of Idaho; grandchildren, Brian (Robin) Nutter of Nashville, Rachelle (Roy) Bennett of Ripley, Jessica Boggess of Charleston, and Camichell Starcher of Ripley; and great-grandchild, Riley Bennett of Ripley.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, April 5, at Parsons-Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with the Rev. Jimmy Compton officiating. Burial will follow in Fairplain Cemetery with veterans' rites by American Legion Post 107.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
