Myrtle Lee Scarbrough, 85, of Dunbar passed away January 12, 2010, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, after a long illness.
She was born on November 13, 1924, in Ripley and was the daughter of the late Samuel M. Carpenter and Nancy E. Carpenter.
She always loved for her neighbors and for her family to come to visit her. She enjoyed gardening and would always have beautiful flowers and bountiful garden crops.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Guy Scarbrough; sisters, Rada Hutton, Glada Horn and Celia Young; and brothers, Hays Carpenter, Bert Carpenter, and Brady Carpenter.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in law, Nancy and Charles Mallini of Houston, Texas, and Sheila and Greg Corbin of Cary, N.C.; son and his fiancée, Joseph Scarbrough and Teresa Hyatt of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; sisters, Freda Reynolds of Ripley and Francis Gray of Idaho; grandchildren, Brittany Scarbrough of Wake Forest, N.C., Kayla Scarbrough of Charlotte, N.C., Stacy McCoy of Apex, N.C., Chad Corbin of Wilmington, N.C., Alan Holt of League City, Texas, Andrew Holt of Seabrook, Texas, and Kelly Mallini and Lori Mallini of Houston, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Emma McCoy, Tyler McCoy, Ryan Corbin, and Irisa Holt.
A special thanks goes to her caregivers, Rose Fulks, Cathy Henri, Gail Harper, and Jay Belcher, who would always treat her as their mother.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 16, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home and Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes, with the Rev. Jack Catalino officiating. The committal service will be held in the West Virginia Mausoleum at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home and Memory Gardens.
Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Hubbard Hospice House.
