He was a carpenter for Local 1159, Point Pleasant, a Marine veteran of the Korean War, recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star and was a member of Ripley Tabernacle Church. Surviving: wife, Wavy Parsons Shields; son, Ronnie Shields of Evans; daughters, Ruth Ann Hutchison and Ruby Hicks, both of Ripley; sisters, Ruth Phillips of Parkersburg, Georgia Gulliford of Columbus, Edra Wickiser of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Parsons-Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with Pastor Mark Siers officiating. Burial, with military rites by VFW Post 6669, Ravenswood, will be in Fairplain Cemetery, near Ripley. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
