    • Alfred Lee Casto, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Casto of Given, entered the service several weeks ago and is stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, at the present time. (Jackson Herald, Friday, Nov. 5, 1943)

      Alfred Lee "Al" Casto

      Alfred Lee "Al" Casto, 80, of Charleston, formerly of Given, passed away June 27, 2005, at home after a short illness.

      He was a retired steel fabricator with Kanawha Manufacturing Company. He was a member of American Legion Post 107, the 88th Infantry Division, Southeastern Chapter and the 5th Field Artillery Association and a life member of the Society of the First Infantry Division and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 3066, Sissonville.

      He was a former member of the Dunbar Senior Bowling League.

      He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Susie Gay Hall Casto; parents, Luther Floyd and Oma Myrtle Bowles Casto; sister, Hilda Pringle; and brother, Everette "Buss" Casto.

      Surviving are daughters and their husbands, Agnes L. and Tommy Skeen of Ripley, Betty E. Carter and Denise L. Morgan, both of Charleston, and Cheryl L. and Ricky Ray Mitchell of Sissonville; son, John R. "Rusty" Casto of Charleston; brother, Paul Casto of Given; sister, Rosalee French of Ripley; grandchildren and their spouses, Tom and Brenda Skeen, Michelle and Doug Dingess, Craig and Erin Carter, Chad Carter and Clint Carter, Jessie Morgan and fiancée, Mandy Presley, Justin and Allison Morgan, Jody and Amie Morgan, Wesley Mitchell and Brandon and Allison Mitchell; and nine great-grandchildren.

      Also surviving are our adopted brother and sister, Richard and Shirley Mullins of Big Chimney.

      The family would like to say a special "thank you" for the love and care that Jettie Young, Sherry and all their supporting staff at Kanawha Hospice Care gave to our dad during his final days.

      Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Fairley McCormick and the Rev. Omar Rucker officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Given, with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post 61, Clendenin.

      Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

      He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
